The Department of Biotechnology, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College (SAASC), in collaboration with the Biotech Research Society of India (BRSI), Thiruvananthapuram, successfully organized a one-day national workshop titled on “Recent Advances in Plant Tissue Culture for Bioconservation” (PTCB–2025) for School and College Students on 15.12.2025. The event was fully sponsored by BRSI and aimed at equipping school and college students with plant tissue culture techniques.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. B. Chitra, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology. followed by the inaugural address by Dr. M. Pitchaimani, Principal, SAASC. Felicitation addresses were given by Dr. G. Sridharan, Dean of Life Sciences. Dr. J. Sebastinraj, Associate Professor and Head, Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy who delivered an expert talk on “Fundamentals and Applications of Plant Tissue Culture”.
The workshop included hands-on training at the Biotechnology Extension Field and lab visits to various Life Science departments. A total of 70 students from Sree Vaijayanthee Vidyalaya School and 5 colleges were participated. Participants expressed high satisfaction, praising the practical exposure and expert guidance. Many students shared that the training was insightful and boosted their interest in the field of biotechnology. Dr. C. Janani, Programme Convenor, proposed the vote of thanks.
At this juncture, we express our sincere gratitude to the College Management, Secretary & Correspondent, Advisor, Principal, Senior Vice Principal, Vice Principals, Deans, Heads of life science Departments for highlighting their department's laboratory facilities and equipments, Faculty Members, Technical Support Team and Transport & Estate Manager for their constant support, which ensured the smooth execution of this event.
