The Department of Biotechnology, Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College (SAASC), in collaboration with the Biotech Research Society of India (BRSI), Thiruvananthapuram, successfully organized a one-day national workshop titled “Training in Mushroom Cultivation Skills (TMCS-2025)” on 08.08.2025. The event was fully sponsored by BRSI and aimed at equipping school and college students with hands-on knowledge in mushroom cultivation.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. B. Chitra, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Biotechnology. followed by the inaugural address by Dr. M. Pitchaimani, Principal, SAASC. Felicitation addresses were given by Dr. G. Jothi, Sr. Vice Principal, and Dr. G. Sridharan, Dean of Life Sciences. Dr. P. ThirumalaiVasan, Assistant Professor, The American College, Madurai, who delivered an expert talk on “Advances in Mushroom Cultivation: Techniques, Nutrient Enhancement, and Value-Added Products.”
The workshop included hands-on training at the Biotechnology Extension Field and lab visits to various Life Science departments. A total of 56 students from 4 schools and 3 colleges participated. Participants expressed high satisfaction, praising the practical exposure and expert guidance. Many students shared that the training was insightful and boosted their interest in biotechnology. Dr. P. Prakash, Programme Convenor, proposed the vote of thanks.
At this juncture, we express our sincere gratitude to the College Management, Secretary & Correspondent, Advisor, Principal, Senior Vice Principal, Vice Principals, Deans, Heads of life science Departments for highlighting their department's laboratory facilities and equipments, Faculty Members, Technical Support Team and Transport & Estate Manager for their constant support, which ensured the smooth execution of this event.
